Triamcinolone acetonide dental paste USP 0.1% w/w is a medium-strength synthetic corticosteroid used for the temporary relief of symptoms associated with oral inflammatory and ulcerative lesions, such as canker sores (aphthous ulcers) and dental trauma. It works by reducing inflammation, swelling, and pain in the mouth.
How to Apply
For maximum effectiveness, the paste must be applied correctly to form a protective film over the sore.
Dab, Don't Rub: Press a small amount (about 1/4 inch) onto the lesion until a thin film develops. Rubbing will cause the paste to become gritty and crumble.
Timing: Apply at bedtime to allow the medicine to work overnight. Depending on severity, it can also be applied 2–3 times daily, preferably after meals.
Use a Cotton Swab: A swab may be used to help the paste adhere to the moist tissue.
Precautions and Side Effects
Infections: Do not use this paste if you have a fungal, viral (like cold sores), or bacterial infection in the mouth or throat, as steroids can worsen these conditions.
Side Effects: Temporary burning, itching, or irritation at the application site may occur.
Duration: If the mouth sore does not show significant repair within 7 days, or if symptoms do not improve within 2 weeks, consult a dentist or physician.
Storage: Keep the tube tightly closed and store at room temperature (20° to 25°C / 68° to 77°F).
Composition
Each gram of the paste contains 1 mg of triamcinolone acetonide in an adhesive base (often containing gelatin, pectin, and carboxymethylcellulose) designed to stick to the moist surfaces of the mouth.
