More Details

This combination tablet, containing N-acetylcysteine (600mg) and Acebrophylline (100mg), is a dual-action medication used primarily to treat chronic respiratory conditions characterized by excessive mucus and airway obstruction.

Therapeutic Uses

This medication is commonly prescribed for:

  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD): Helps manage long-term lung damage by improving airflow and reducing mucus buildup.

  • Bronchial Asthma: Used as an add-on therapy to relax airway muscles and prevent attacks triggered by dust or pollen.

  • Bronchitis (Acute or Chronic): Eases persistent coughing by thinning thick phlegm and reducing airway inflammation.

  • Cystic Fibrosis & Emphysema: Assists in clearing thick secretions to support overall lung function.

How It Works

The tablet combines two active agents that work synergistically:

  1. Acebrophylline (100mg): Functions as a bronchodilator and mucoregulator. It relaxes the smooth muscles of the airways to make breathing easier and has anti-inflammatory properties to reduce swelling.

  2. N-Acetylcysteine (600mg): Acts as a mucolytic agent. It breaks the chemical bonds in thick mucus, lowering its viscosity so it can be coughed out more easily.

Usage & Safety Information

  • Administration: It is usually taken once daily, preferably in the evening after a meal to minimize stomach upset. Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush or chew.

  • Common Side Effects: May include nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, heartburn, stomach pain, or a runny nose.
